I made a new discovery, you guys! And I have to say—it’s a total gem that I don’t believe anyone’s really talking about just yet.
I was on my way to a shoot in Holborn when I stumbled across Woni Patisserie—a boutique dessert shop with Asian-inspired treats by a former Michelin Pastry Chef. Yes, you read that right. And no, this detour wasn’t part of the original plan. I was rushing to the location and having a little uni throwback moment while walking through the streets of Holborn. My camera was literally on 3% battery, and I had just enough time to snap a few shots and take a tiny 10-minute break from filming content with another creator.
But by the time I looked back, I realised—wait—there were cakes tucked away in the left-hand corner! 😩 Don’t worry, though—when I’m back in London, I’ll definitely be making another visit. (Edit coming later, I promise!)
Still, I’m so glad I stumbled across this place.
Even though I missed out on the cakes, I managed to grab a chocolate hazelnut and matcha choux and an iced matcha with rose—both so good. The owner, who was incredibly kind, even offered me the drink for free. But here’s the thing: as much as I love a freebie (who doesn’t?), I have a strict policy of always paying small business owners.
Because here’s the reality—starting a small business, especially in the food industry, is not easy. It’s long hours, endless costs, and constant pressure just to stay afloat. Many of these owners are working seven days a week, often without a team, just to keep their doors open. And they’re not just baking or cooking—they’re also the accountant, the cleaner, the social media manager, the barista, the stock buyer, and sometimes even their own delivery driver.
They're juggling rising rent, inflation, expensive ingredients, and let’s not forget the emotional rollercoaster of building something from scratch and hoping people show up.
It’s not just about baking cute cakes or pouring pretty drinks—it’s about pouring their entire soul (and usually their savings) into something they truly believe in.
So yes, that iced matcha was delicious—but supporting a small businesslike Woni is what made it feel even better. 💚
If you're in London and want something a little special (and made with serious passion), go check them out. And remember: every pastry you buy from a small shop keeps a dream alive—and helps someone keep going, even on the hard days.
